Excellent Phone - Great Reception!
I purchased this phone in August and I've really enjoyed this phone so far. I went through 2 other 5.8GHZ phones(Uniden TRU & Panasonic) that didn't get good reception at all in my house before I found the DECT technology. The DECT 2080-2 has excellent sound clarity. I can walk outside or into my garage without a problem which I couldn't do with the 5.8Ghz phones.
If you are familiar with the Uniden brand of phones, this phone has some of the same features. Caller ID is easy to read the phone number and name of caller. Speakerphone is loud and clear. I choose the 2080-2 because the handset does light up when you use the phone which I find to be very useful at night. The phone is limited on ring tones - only 7. I'd like a bigger selection but I can live with it.
We haven't experienced any of the "Out of Range" problems like over reviews have stated. We had that problem with our 5.8GHz but not the DECT.
Answering machine is simple to set-up and use. Messages are clear and easy to pick up. For this price, I would definitely recommend you buy!

Sure, this phone has good battery life, but that's about it.
This phone is starting to say "out of range" with more and more frequency. When it says "out of range," you have to hit the 'talk' button to reconnect. It can take up to five seconds or longer to reconnect the call. At first I thought it was the 2.4 Ghz WiFi (this phone claims "no interference"), but this phone will go out of range even when the WiFi is turned off! This is not an anomaly either. My friend has this exact same phone and it does the exact same thing. When the phone says out of range it isn't really out of range. It goes out of range when the base is only a few feet away. This is totally unacceptable.
If this phone didn't have the "out of range" error, the many quirks this phone has might be a little more tolerable. For instance, if you dial a number from caller ID and it's from a different area code than the one you're in, you have to hit the 'tone' button to place a '1' ahead of the area code. If you don't do this, your call will not be completed. Many other companies have figured a way around this, the greatest problem of the 21st century, but Uniden can not. This is very silly.
The sounds quality is very inconsistent. People say my voice cuts in and out from time to time. My friend's voice sounds warbly and the call seems to originate from 10 ATM underwater. This phone is truly awful. I think the previous iteration of the Uniden Dect 6.0 (1080-X) was a little better. I guess with Uniden, no back lit keypad equates to better sound quality.
When you redial a number and it's busy, you have to hit the red 'off' button, hit the redial button again, and then hit the green 'talk' button for it to dial. If this phone was engineered properly, all one would have to do is hit the green 'talk' button to reset the busy signal to a dial tone, and then hit the 'redial' button. The phone would then proceed to dial the redialed number. If you try it on this phone, the number you want to redial appears on the display and the dial tone is heard, but it does not dial the call! The morons at Uniden are not thinking logically. Panasonic figured out this redial procedure.
When the battery needs charging, the stupid thing beeps every five seconds. Every five seconds. The Panasonic I reviewed in the past beeped every minute and a half, and that was too persistent. The Uniden 1080-X didn't beep every five seconds.
There are other weird things about this phone, but this review is too long already.
If you want a hassle free, simplified operation, clear sound quality, and a phone that actually works as advertised, this monstrosity is not for you.
Uniden Dect 6 Cordless Digital
I have had this phone for little over a month and it has worked extremely well. The answer system shows the number of messages and gives a warning signal, plus it is very clear. Calling and receiving calls are very clear and loud enough. There is not WiFi interference. I have not noticed any range problems when outside. I spent alot of time reading reviews and felt this was going to be a good product and so far I have been very satisfied.
