Audio-Technica ATH-Pro700 - One of the greatest Studio Monitor ***** Audio-Technica never stop improving their studio grade products even they have the respectable "ATH-M40FS" in their arsenal. This ATH-Pro700 packed with tons of new technologies and the sound is a leap forward ahead of its competitors. With ultra wide frequency response of 5Hz-33kHz form its 53mm neodymium drivers. This headphones have power handling capacity of gigantic 3,500mW while easy to drive with 36 Ohm impedance and SPL of 105dB/mW. Bass is deep and details but not interfere with other ranges while overall clarity is exceptional. Mid are great and high also great. It seems as if nothing can escape from this headphones. Someone said this headphones is good for both professionals and audiophiles. (if those audiophile can accept the lesser comfort of the studio headphones) Built of this headphones looks so durable and well prepared for rugged environment on the field service. It can be packed into a small and compact shape to put into a leather pouch for easy carrying. This headphones is also a valuable tools for the sound engineer and musician alike. For those musician you can use this studio monitor as if you are a scientist using microscope to analyse the technique of the great musicians. Revelation of technique of great artist are stunning even on the great pianists such as Horowitz, Richter, Gieles, Arrau, Bolet, Pletnev, Pogolerich, Lang Lang, etc. Details of the art of great guitarist ie. Steve Vai and Yngwie J. Malmsteen on this headphones is a real confirmation of how great they are. What is wrong about the description in Amazon about this headphone is the type of this headphone whidh says it is "Open-Air" type. Actually it is a Closed one. At the back behind the hinge on each side it have only 8 small pressure release holes of which 5 of 8 is covered with acoustic filter. Since it is a Close type headphone so it is more suitable for both studio and loud environment. Only drawback thing in this headphones is the size of its cup. Ear cups are quite small. Eventhough it can cover most of people's ear but some with bigger earlobe will face some problem. Overall : This is a great headphone. It is the "Professional" among the professional headphones. ***** I regret not discovering these sooner. A friend at work introduced me to these headphones. That's what friends are for. A week after receiving them I ordered a second pair; one pair for work and one for home. I got tired of trucking the first pair to work and back home. I listened to music I must have listened to a thousand times before and discovered music I'd never heard. My music collection had acquired a new lease on life. Do NOT operate heavy machinery or care for small children while using these headphones! (Don't even think about driving.) A few months later I bought my third pair. This pair was simply for loaning to friends so they could share in the experience. (I wasn't about to part with my work/home duo.) One of the most rewarding purchases I've ever made. (I'm actually her son :P) I got these headphones to replace my old Roland RH-25s. The Rolands didn't have the treble crispness or bass response that I wanted. These headphones sound great at all frequencies. The bass is clean but not overpowering. The treble end is plenty crisp. I never knew my iPod had so much to offer! For what it's worth, I listen to almost exclusively classical music. I like the fact that these shut out outside sounds so well. They're not as comfortable as the ATH-M40fs's, but these sound better, in my opinion (my dad has the M40fs). With some adjustment, these can be worn for a few hours with no problems. They also fold up too, which is pretty awesome. One thing about them: they're built like a tank. A little heavy, but who cares, anyway? The cord is a good length, nice to have the coiled part if you need it. Overall, I'm glad I paid the incredibly low price at Amazon to get these.
