Overall solid performance; a few quirks; recommended I bought this 3 phone set at Target directly for about $70. I also considered the 5.8Ghz model (similar features but pricier) and some Panasonic multi handsets but they were almost all pricier. Our house is in a neighborhood of 1/3 acre lots so interference density is fairly low. Figured I would try the 2.4 model first to see if it works well with neighbors all using cordless and several wireless Internet signals floating around. Overall, it works well for us, I'd recommend it to others, and would buy it again. +++++PLUSSES+++++++++ Good sound, good signal, good features Physical size and shape is good; one of the reasons I like this is that even though it is small, you can cradle it comfortably; feels light but solid in your hand. Good battery life and good range Easy to set up; menu options pretty straightforward. Speakerphone is excellent. Ringer tone options are a gift for us. Several good softer options, but only 2 volume settings. We found 2 that work well for us. We'll probably buy an extra 4th handset when we decide we need one upstairs. We have 3 Apple computers all using a airport express base station for wireless networking. We have not had any interference, even though they are both on the 2.4 Ghz band. My wife decided in her post-pregnancy brain state to run one handset through the heavy duty wash cycle, and 2 rinse cycles just for fun. The waterlogged handset looked bad, but after taking it apart, 10 minutes with a hairdryer and 30 min in our dryer's drying rack on low heat, all the condensation was gone. It would turn on but not work properly. But we charged it overnight and the next morning it was perfect. We expect it to die, but pretty impressive that it could recover with minimal drying effort on our part. We recover car key remotes this way, too. --------MINUSES---------- Some other reviews discuss the buttons. Here is the deal. The SIZE of the buttons is fine, but they are both small-ish AND high profile so it seems like they are "too small". A better design would have been to leave them flush with the case (like our cell phones, the buttons on which are even smaller, but don't SEEM small because there is plenty of space around them.) Room Monitor: works very well, but when you activate it, the phone that "listens" rings this horribly loud ring that you cannot control in the menu. Uniden obviously did not give parents a chance to test because with our light sleeping kids we would like to turn on the room monitor without having to sound a fire alarm in our house. Also, because these have a "directlink" mode that allows them to behave like walkie-talkies away from the base, I assumed we could take them to a friend's house and use them as room monitors there. But, no - room monitor feature has to use the base. Direct link does not. But room monitor and direct link cannot be used together. Bummer. Backlight should stay on while phone is in the base, but it's not. Should be a menu feature. What a deal! Inexpensive multi handset system. Packed with features, we especially like the room monitor, speaker phone on each handset, and direct connect feature (lets you use the phones as walkie-talkies away from your home.) I have two of these systems in my house, total of 6 phones, and we use Vonage broadband phone service. These phones are PERFECT for us, and integrate nicely with Vonage(or any other phone company with voicemail.) One touch voicemail access, blinking light message indicator, etc. Truly awesome for the small amount of $ they cost. Excellent Price, Good Quality I have numerous Uniden Cordless Phones in the past, and not had any problems with them. So this time when I was shopping at Target I picked this package up because it was an incrediable value compared to other companies who were charging the same price for only two handsets - and that includes the base. So I get these thing home and they are like mini cell phones: Light up easy to read screen Voice Mail Indicator Caller ID Call Waiting A lot of ring tones Excellent sound quality Battery indicator right on the screen Very light weight Stylish Very easy to use I have no bones with these phones, ya they are not 5.8GHz but I still get good range with them, and it doesn't mess with my wireless internet connection, this is just a great bargain for you dollar!

Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones
From Shure

The E2c's unique, affordable design comes from Shure's years of collaborating with professional musicians. Featuring a high energy speaker in a distinctive enclosure, the E2c produces studio-quality sound with excellent isolation from background noise.
Brand: Shure Model: E2C Dimensions: .7 pounds
Shure's E2c in-ear headphones are tiny, lightweight, and designed to sonically outperform most ear-bud-style headphones. The E2c's unique, relatively affordable design comes from Shure's years of collaborating with professional musicians. With high-energy drivers in distinctive enclosures, the E2c produces high-quality sound with excellent isolation from background noise. The E2c's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components, producing exceptional audio clarity. Their in-ear design, using supplied flex sleeves, naturally blocks background noise. This permits lower listening volumes in loud environments--critical in safeguarding your hearing during performance or other activities. No batteries or extra equipment are needed for sound isolation. Because every ear is different, E2c earphones come with 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves to ensure a personalized fit. These disposable foam sleeves gently compress to fit in the ear canal. Once in the ear, the foam expands to form a tight seal. Once tightly sealed, the sleeves hold the earphones firmly in place. The E2c's cables pass behind the ear--out of sight and out of the way for comfort and discretion. Weighing only 1 ounce, the E2c is lightweight and comfortable enough for any portable listening application. The set comes with a soft, stylish, compact, and zippered carrying case, which allows for an easy, tangle-free way to store your earphones. What's in the Box Earphones, 2 triple-flange sleeves, 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves, and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves (kit 90XC1371, with cleaning tool), a soft carry case (80B8232), a user's manual, and warranty information.
great product, and Shure stands by it Like many people, I was tempted by the good reviews but reluctant to pay so much for a pair of tiny earphones. Finally, almost 2 years ago, I bought a pair. Like all of the other reviews here state, the Shure E2c's sound GREAT. They are very balanced, and let you hear the subtle details of your music, making the music almost come alive in your head. They turn your MP3 player or Discman into an audiophile-quality stereo system. The E2c blocks outside noise by forming a very tight seal in your ear. In contrast, "noise canceling" earphones, such as the popular ones by Bose, do not block outside noise from reaching your ear, rather they add their own electronically generated noise which is supposed to cancel out the outside noise. I've never had good results with the various noise canceling headphones I've tried; plus, they require batteries to generate the noise-canceling noise. The E2c's block noise without batteries, and without adding any artificial noise or discoloration to your music. It works very well. I especially appreciate it at gym, on the bus or subway, and on a plane. (Warning - PLEASE don't wear the E2c's while driving or bicycling or any other time that safety requires your full attention!) The build quality of the E2c's is very good - the cord and plug are thicker and sturdier than competing earphones. For 2 years, I heavily used and abused my E2c's, especially at the gym. Literally hundreds and hundreds of times, I've plugged and unplugged them into my various MP3 players, hastily wound and unwound the cord, and tossed them into my gym bag, usually without using the protective case that comes with the E2c's. Despite the very good build quality, my heavy use led finally to a short: when the cord was wiggled in a certain way, the sound on the left side would briefly go out. I went to Shure's website and saw that they have a 2-year warranty. I sent my E2c's to Shure for repair, hoping it would be covered by warranty, but prepared to pay if Shure felt the problem was due to wear and tear (because, in fact, it was). Two weeks later, I received from Shure a BRAND-NEW PAIR of E2c's - they decided the problem WAS covered by the warranty, and wanted me to have a new pair rather than repairing my old ones!!! This is more than I expected, and will make me a repeat buyer of Shure products! I especially appreciate this level of service given the lackluster support I've received from so many other companies. awesome pair of phones, three caveats I am totally into these noise-cancelling earphones and they perfectly complement my iRiver mp3 player/recorder in sound and color. Once you've gotten over their higher price point, have followed the enclosed instructions exactly and begun to use them, there is no going back to the normal, flat sounding buds. They isolate exterior noise and that is a boon if you live in a noisy environment, like NYC infamously is. Experiment with using the foam vs. the flex sleeves to your taste. I've stuck with the smallest of the three sized flex sleeves and after two days testing my ears were used to the slight increase in pressure. A warning: be careful not to turn the volume up too high in public as one needs to be able to know when her/his attention is required, among other things. Be extra aware of traffic when on the street. Also, high volume just is not necessary as ALL exterior racket (subways, curse-laden conversations and car horns) is rendered mutedly surreal. Also, be mindful of its carrying case. I've had my pair for almost a year now and the case's cable spool has bent the cord's wire covering to such an extent that it is now exposed. Far be it from me to walk around town like a super-geek w/ electrical tape on mine; I plan to replace them with one from amazon's marketplace sellers for cheaper when Santa comes around this December. But be advised to remove the interior cable spool completely and keep the headphones rolled up manually before placing them inside the case. The case is very durable, zips up securely, is nonbreakable, has a soft protective interior and is lightweight. One other observation -- use q-tips and rubbing alcohol to regularly clean the flex sleeves if you decide to use those. The foam probably would just wear out completely. Shure's website does sell replacment sleeves (both foam and flex) for $10-$12 each w/ 5 pair included, which is nice. I honestly would have given the product five stars if it wasn't for the breaking of the wire cover coupled with their already high price. The warnings above should keep yours in good working shape for years though and this is a great investment for all digital audiophiles. :-) Excellent product, blows any earbud away! I bought these earphones for a combination of uses - travel, exercise, casual listening, etc. They are great. The noticeable background noise attenuation is perfect for flights, busy airports, mowing the lawn or anywhere you want to tune out the outside world. Bass response is very good, I'd call it neutral (which is the best thing a serious music fan can ask for.) These earphones are very low profile and unobtrusive to wear. They do not create the fatigue I get while wearing regular headphones for a long period and the sound blows away the numerous earbuds I have tried. I use the flex fit sleeves which are very comfortable. By cinching up the sleeve on the cord, they stay in place with minimal fuss even while exercising. I strongly recommend these earbuds to anyone who wants immersive, comfortable and excellent sound.

Most noise-reducing headphones feature large over-the-head or behind-the-neck headbands, making them a bit bulky to use while traveling or working out. Not so the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia headphones, whose ultra-light in-the-ear design sounds great while minimizing distracting ambient noise. The closed-type construction makes the headphones a perfect fit for airline, train, or bus travel, or while dancing or skating to your own tune. The phones owe their audio performance to the extra-small 9 mm drivers and neodymium magnets fitted inside each earpiece. The drivers and magnets combine to generate high-intensity sound, with a deeper-than-expected bass response (as low as 6 Hz) and refreshingly crisp mid- and high-range tones. Listeners will also welcome the two sizes of ear buds that come with the headphones, ensuring that users find the right match for their individual ear shapes. The soft silicone buds are also responsible for much of the noise reduction. Additional features include an oxygen-free copper cord that reduces noise and improves signal transfer, a gold-plated mini-plug that resists corrosion, a stylish neck chain cord, and a streamlined carrying case that easily slips into a shirt pocket. Give them time before you decide I ordered these because the Apple headphones that came with my iPod Mini kept falling out at the gym, and also lacked adequate bass response. When I first tried the Sony phones at home, I was disappointed. I did not like how they fit, and the sound didn't seem to be any better than the originals. However, I decided to try them out at the gym, since that was why I got them in the first place. It took me a while to get used to the cords being different lengths, but now I like that feature, becaue I can have them out and around my neck, even when they're not in my ears. This is convenient when I'm at the airport or on a plane, and have to be listening for boarding calls or announcements, but don't want to put the headphones away. As for the fit and sound, I found that after I had them in for a few minutes, I hardly noticed them at all, and the sound is a lot better than the Apple headphones. As many other reviewers have noted, you must insert these headphones fully into your ear canal, or they won't stay in and they won't sound good. It sounds a lot more intrusive than it feels, at least for me. I can wear them for hours without any problems at all. While they are not really noise-canceling headphones, they do effectively isolate you from all but the loudest ambient sounds. This makes them ideal for air travel and other times you want to block out external noise. I am pleased to have headphones that allow me to enjoy my iPod more fully than the originals ever did. A terrific value in inexpensive earbuds with decent sound My EX51s have been trouble free for several months, despite some mild abuse. They stay in place fairly well after fitting the proper-sized rubber sleeves, and they're comfortable enough to fall asleep with. The "behind the neck" cord requires some adjustment, but aftter learning how to wear it properly (entire cord behind neck, main cord clipped to shirt or collar to relieve strain) I adapted quickly. The sound quality is surprisingly good for buds cheap enough to regard as disposable, though they seemed rather shrill at first. Several hours of burn-in were required to tame the tizzy highs. Clarity & detail are better than with the standard iPod buds. Frequency response is fairly neutral (using my Sennheiser HD590s for comparison), with a slight treble boost and the bottom end rolled off just a bit. Sound isolation seems nearly ideal to me, with perhaps a 15dB reduction of external noise--enough to make outside sounds unobtrusive, but still permitting one to hear approaching cars when running on public roads. Though I've been disappointed by Sony products in the past, I don't hesitate to recommend the EX51s as a terrific value. UPDATE Dec '09: This review was based on Amazon's price of ~$20. At that price, they were a bargain, but not at $40 or $50! Yes, the rubber decomposes. I had the same issue as other people who have written reviews. The rubber started decomposing shortly after I got it, but I didn't notice until I got a mild shock. Then I saw that a good portion of the rubber had definitely lost its color and composition. By the time I called, it was out of warranty (though I'm not sure even if the warranty would have covered it). I called Sony, and replacements are $25. More than buying them here on amazon. Oh, well, I'll just keep the rubber earbuds as spares for the other Sony buds I have. Do yourself a favor and get the black equivalent - the black tubing is physically different (a little tougher, and doesn't decompose). They might be a dollar or so more, and they might not match your iPod, but they'll last you a lot longer.

Unimpressed I had a Samung phone before and knew how the buttons all worked. I assumed Samsung would maintain the same good-sense button logic on newer, similar model phones. I was wrong. I've got a few problems which I outline below: LOCK BUTTON SUCKS - I keep my phone in my pocket. Even though I've enabled the Lock feature, you can unlock it without opening the phone, so you can accidentally unlock it. (What kind of lock is that?) When it unlocks while in my pocket, sometimes the camera feature gets pressed, and I have a dozen black photos of the inside of my pocket. Similarly, the voice dial can be enabled, and I hear a voice from my pocket asking me to re-say the name I wish to dial. "Wish to dial?" I locked the dang thing! I didn't want to call anyone! CONTACT LIST SCROLLING - My old Samsung had external side buttons that, when showing the contact list, would 'page down' or 'page up' scrolling through the contact list. On the u540, the buttons do nothing, and you have to choose the first letter of the name of the person you wish to call from the keypad. It requires far more attention to chose a letter than to just scroll down. DEFUALT RINGTONES STINK - This may just be because of my carrier (Verizon), but all the default ringtones are irritating. There's nothing mellow or unobtrusive. If you want to have something else, you have to pay extra. Since mine is a company phone, I don't think management is gonna like paying for 'ringtones' or having to go to the effort of getting $3 from me. What a hassle. Also, after browsing the Verizon site, all the ringtones are pop songs. Whatever happened to a simple ring? LITTLE BUILT-IN MEMORY - You can take photos, video and listen to music! But only if you go and buy a chip. Some aren't too expensive, but it's still just another barrier to enjoying the phone. SLOPPY HINGE - I'd expect a product like this to be made to tight specs. When the phone is closed, the 'screen' half is loose. It wiggles on top of the 'button' half and gives the phone a flimsy feel to it. Also, you'd think with stereo speakers on the outside on top, you'd think the phone has speaker phone ability. It doesn't. SOME GOOD POINTS - It's sleek and thin (though if you get the extended battery like I did, it ain't so thin). I seem to be easily heard by people I call, and the buttons are large enough to press easily. The screen is bright and readable. The camera has some good controls on it (exposure bias, ISO, etc), which surprised me. All in all I'm disappointed. I really just want a good phone as a phone. Make calls, accept calls, and usually sit there quietly. Given the chance again, I would not choose this phone. ***EDIT***: I've since discovered that my carrier, Verizon, has put its own interface/software on this phone to make it match all its other phones (in order to simplify tech support, I suppose). Most of my complaints about this phone actually stemmed from the fact that Verizon did a poor job of making the buttons work sensibly, including the poor selection of default ringtones. With another carrier/interface this phone would likely perform differently. This discovery partially renewed my confidence with Samsung technology, though further aggravates my frustrations with Verizon Wireless. Samsung missed the point The purpose of a cell phone is to communicate. This phone does have many features and does have style, but it can't communicate. The talk-out is perfect, no complaints from callers. The problem with this phone is the earpiece. The volume is loud and can rattle the phone, but the earpiece hole doesn't let the sound out of the phone. Very hard to hear and understand the caller. The phone may be OK with bluetooth. Took mine back after two weeks and exchanged for a LG 8600. Big difference in voice reception. good phone, mediocre battery life I replaced an older Samsung A670 with this phone several months ago and am overall very pleased with it. It is much thinner and lighter and can easily be forgotten in my pocket. Reception: It's a little better than my previous Samsung and on par with my wife's Motorolla crazr. It works just about anywhere to include basements and elevators. I don't know what was wrong with the previous reviewers speaker but I can understand others just fine. I also keep the volume all the way up and it doesn't cause my phone to rattle. The default ringtones do stink but I have yet to see a Samsung where they don't. I think the designers have a 70's disco fetish. There are a couple basic ringtones and those work well for me. The lock button feature does suck on this one. It doesn't seem to stay locked on my phone for very long. I have yet to take a picture with it in my pocket though. That happened daily with my old A670. Battery life: I'm actually on my 2nd phone and 3rd battery. I was surprised when my first phone ran through it's charge within 36 hours of minimal to moderate use. I used to charge my A670 2-3x/week and my old LG once per week. This thing is on the charger at least every other night and many times every night. I am not a heavy cell user. We tried changing phones first with the same results. Then we changed batteries and there did seem to be some improvement. The tech at the Verizon store said that it's normal to have to charge the phone every night. I don't think he read the manual for the phone. I don't use the mp3 player function but I'd be willing to bet it would eat the battery very quickly. The camera is acceptable but it's still a cameraphone, which I don't think is good for much. Perhaps the fact that the phone comes unlocked has something to do with it because the mp3 buttons are pretty sensitive. I wear loose slacks though so there is not a lot of pressure on the buttons. It is an annoyance but it's not enough to outweigh the lightweight and slender design, which is the most important feature for me. The construction is no different that other cells I've used. Drop it and it may loosen. Mine has maybe 1mm of deflection when I try to slide the two halfs back and forth. I like something that feels solid, not like it was made by a toy manufacturer. This phone is solid (and it's been dropped a few times). If I had to go buy another cell phone right now I'd buy this one again.

Nice! I bought this a couple of days ago. I needed an expandable, and was looking at my local Sears, and saw this cool telephone! It was $49.99, so I thought I'd give it a try! It came with 2 handsets, but it is expandable up to 4 handsets, and I put the main telephone in my bedroom and the other telephone in another bedroom. bought it because you only need to plug the main telephone into a telephone jack. The others plug into an outlet, and locate the main handset, and it still works like a regular telephone! I LOVE IT! I'm going to buy 2 more handsets for it soon! I highly recommend it! Nice product At first I was getting alot of static on this phone, but once I found an outlet where it didn't have intereference from other electrical items, it was fine. Its clear and has nice features. very bad battery life it is just a normal 5.8Ghz Cordless phone, but the battery life is very short, I just own it no more than 6 months, and the battery not chargeable completely, and the new battery cost almost $20, and having same problem. I won't buy it again even it is free.
